Digital Agency Malaysia: What Drives the Cost of a Website Redesign

A website redesign in Malaysia is priced by depth: a refresh, a rebuild, a re-platform or a reinvention. Here is what moves the investment, what quotes leave out, and how to compare them.

The cost of a website redesign in Malaysia is set by depth. A visual refresh is the lightest piece of work, a rebuild with new structure and content sits in the middle, and a platform change or ecommerce migration is the heaviest of the standard options. Custom builds with their own functions go further still. Page count, languages, integrations, content and the number of people who must approve the work decide the investment more than the design does.

That spread frustrates marketing and procurement teams, and fairly. Two digital agencies in Malaysia can quote figures several times apart for what looks like the same job, and the lower one might be the honest one. A redesign carries baggage a new build does not have: years of pages, URLs that Google already knows, forms wired to a CRM, a WhatsApp button someone added in 2021 and nobody owns. The price depends on how much of that baggage the agency has to move without dropping it.

CUBEevo has worked with 400+ brands since 2007, including brands such as RHB, NTT Data and I-City. Our bias, declared up front, is that most buyers do better with a clear scope than a low headline figure.

The CUBEevo Redesign Depth Ladder

We sort every redesign into one of four rungs. The rung matters more than the agency, because it tells you which questions to ask before anyone opens Figma.

Rung 1, Refresh. Structure and platform stay as they are. Typography, colour, the layout of key templates, imagery and the homepage get redone. It suits a site that works but looks like it was built for a different company.

Rung 2, Rebuild means new page structure, new navigation, rewritten or reorganised content and new templates, usually on the same CMS family. Choose it when visitors cannot find things or the site no longer matches what you sell.

At Rung 3, Re-platform, the engine changes. That might be an ageing WordPress install with thirty plugins moving to a modern CMS, or a template shop becoming a properly built store with local payments. Migration, redirects and integrations become the main cost. Our guide to ecommerce web design agency Malaysia platform stack and cost covers the store side of this rung.

The site becomes a product at Rung 4, Reinvent: custom booking, member areas, calculators, multilingual systems or tight links with internal software. Design is a minority of the budget here.

Rung What changes What drives the investment Typical timeline Best for
1. Refresh Look, key templates, imagery Templates redesigned, imagery and photography, brand alignment 3 to 6 weeks Sound structure, dated appearance
2. Rebuild Structure, content, templates Page count, content rewriting and translation, information architecture, review rounds 8 to 14 weeks Visitors lost, offer has changed
3. Re-platform CMS or store engine, migration Content migration, URL redirects, integrations rebuilt, IT and security review 3 to 5 months Slow, fragile or locked-in sites
4. Reinvent Custom functions and systems Custom functions, system integrations, testing, data protection requirements 4 to 8 months The site is a working business tool

Each rung adds substantially to the work of the one below it, and a quote that differs from what you expected is not automatically wrong. A freelancer on a template and a 40-person studio can both quote for the same rung, for very different reasons. For what sits inside a typical scope at the lighter end, and what gets billed on top, see website agency Malaysia what's included and what costs extra.

Where the quote grows

Headline quotes usually cover design and build. The extras are where two quotes for the same site drift apart.

Content

Who writes the new copy, and in which languages? A bilingual site in English and Bahasa Malaysia adds roughly as much text work again. Add Chinese and it grows once more, and a machine translation pasted in at launch will cost you more in lost trust than it saved. Photography follows the same logic. If the old site used stock images of handshakes, the new one needs real photographs of your premises, products and team. In a larger organisation, add the review loop as well: legal, compliance and regional teams may each read the copy, and every round is time the quote should account for.

URL and SEO migration

Make sure the quote has a line for this. If your old product page lived at one address and the new one lives at another, a redirect has to connect them. Google's guidance on moving a site with URL changes says to keep those redirects live for at least 180 days, and warns that changing content and URL structure at the same time will probably cost some traffic while Google reassesses each page. A migration plan keeps that dip shallow and brief. Ask to see the plan, and who checks Search Console in the four weeks after launch.

Integrations

FPX and card payments, WhatsApp click-to-chat, a CRM such as Flowlu or HubSpot, booking tools, email platforms and analytics each add a half-day to several days of work, and each can break silently on launch day. If your enquiry form feeds a sales process, the new form must feed it too, so test one real enquiry end to end before you sign off.

Performance is the next line. Google's published thresholds for a good experience are a Largest Contentful Paint of 2.5 seconds or less and an Interaction to Next Paint of 200 milliseconds or less, measured on real visits (see how those Core Web Vitals thresholds were defined). A new design that loads slower than the old one is a step backwards, so ask whether the quote commits to numbers like these. Many of your visitors will arrive on a mid-range phone over mobile data, so that is the device to test on.

Hosting, maintenance and handover cover domain renewals, hosting, security updates, backups and a short training session so your team can edit pages without calling the agency. Ask for annual maintenance as a figure, and check the first year is either included or priced separately.

The last line is tax and payment terms. Check whether the figure includes SST where the agency is registered, how the payments split, and whether the agency can be set up as a vendor in your procurement system on the timeline you need. A 50 percent deposit with the balance due on launch is a common pattern. Be wary of a 100 percent upfront request from a studio you have not met.

How to compare three quotes

Put the quotes in a table of your own and fill in the same rows for each. Gaps show up quickly.

Question Quote A Quote B Quote C
Number of templates and pages
Who writes and translates content
Redirect and migration plan
Integrations rebuilt
Performance targets
Training and handover
First-year hosting and maintenance
Payment schedule

The lowest quote usually has the most blanks. The most expensive one is not always the most complete, so read for specifics rather than length. Look for lines like "we will map 140 existing URLs to their new equivalents and review crawl errors weekly for six weeks", not "SEO optimisation included". For a longer look at what falls inside a typical scope and what gets billed separately, read website agency Malaysia what's included and what costs extra.

When a redesign is the wrong purchase

Sometimes the site is fine and the problem sits elsewhere. If enquiries dropped after a change in your offer or pricing, a new homepage will not fix it. If your logo, colours and tone no longer match the company you have become, the right order is brand first and site second, and we explain why in branding agency Malaysia when to hire one for a rebrand. Redesigning before the brand is settled means paying for the website twice.

A smaller first step is to fix the three pages that carry most of the revenue. Open Search Console and your analytics, find the pages that bring in enquiries, and rebuild those first. A focused landing page that works beats a full site that merely looks new.

Choosing a digital agency in Malaysia

Price is one filter. What the agency asks you before quoting, and what it shows you afterwards, tell you more. A good digital agency in Malaysia will ask for your current analytics, want to know which pages earn money, and tell you plainly if your problem is not the website. It will also show finished sites with before and after numbers. Our guide on design agency Malaysia what you pay for and how to judge one lists the questions we would ask if we were the buyer.

If you are comparing options, our digital agency Malaysia service covers redesigns at every rung of the ladder above, from refreshes to custom builds. We do not publish a price list, because the rung, the content and the integrations change the scope too much for a fixed figure to mean anything. Book a consultation and we will send a written scope you can lay next to the others, and we will say so if a smaller scope would serve you better.

Frequently asked questions

What determines the cost of a website redesign in Malaysia?

Depth first: a visual refresh is the lightest, a rebuild with new page structure and content sits in the middle, and a platform change or ecommerce migration is heavier again. Custom builds with booking, member areas or software links go further. Within each rung, page count, languages, integrations, content work, URL migration and the number of approval rounds move the cost more than the visual design does. We quote against a written scope, so the figure reflects your site rather than a price list.

Does a redesign cost less than building a new website?

Not reliably. A refresh on the same platform can cost less than a new build, but a redesign carries extra work a new site does not have: mapping old URLs to new ones, migrating content, protecting rankings and reconnecting existing integrations. When the platform is changing as well, a redesign often costs the same as or more than a fresh build.

How long does a website redesign take?

A refresh usually takes three to six weeks. A rebuild with new structure and content takes eight to fourteen weeks. A platform change or ecommerce migration commonly runs three to five months. Slow feedback, late content and extra approval rounds stretch a schedule more often than the build itself.

Will a redesign hurt my Google rankings?

It can, if URLs change without redirects or if well-ranking pages are cut or rewritten without a plan. Google's own site move guidance says to keep redirects in place for at least 180 days, and to expect some traffic loss if you change content and URL structure together. A proper migration plan keeps that dip small and short.

What should a redesign quote include?

It should list the number of templates and pages, who writes and translates the content, the URL redirect plan, the integrations being rebuilt (payments, WhatsApp, CRM, forms), the performance targets, the training or handover, and the first year of hosting and maintenance. If any of these is missing, ask whether it is excluded or forgotten.

How do we get a scoped proposal for our redesign?

Share your current site address, your Search Console access if you have it, and the one business result the new site must improve. A first conversation is usually enough to place your site on a rung of the ladder. Book a consultation with CUBEevo and we will send a written scope you can lay next to the others you collect.
