A limited-run 3D pop-up CNY angpow for doTERRA — the global essential oils brand — engineered to triple as a Chinese New Year decoration, a money packet, and a passive diffuser carrying their hero Rose essential oil.

+Challenges

doTERRA wanted a CNY giveaway that did more than sit on a side table. The brief: an exclusive 3D angpow built around a small diffuser sponge, in premium materials with its own presentation box — a piece that earns its place on the home altar through the full festive season.

The object had to deliver three jobs in one — festive decor, traditional angpow, and a passive Rose-oil diffuser — without compromising the paper engineering needed to make it pop up cleanly every time it's opened. Multi-function objects often fail by doing each thing poorly; the design had to make all three jobs feel intentional, not incidental.

Production added another constraint: tight CNY timeline, premium board stock, registered finishes, and a presentation box that does the gifting work before the angpow is even opened.

+Final thoughts

We brought it to life as a Rose + Butterfly 3D pop-up — a nod to doTERRA's hero Rose SKU — built in folded paper engineering, finished with premium board and presentation packaging. The butterfly and rose are not just decoration; they're the structural logic that lets the piece pop up and hold its scented sponge.

From ideation through prototype, print, and packing, the project shipped on doTERRA's tight CNY timeline as a giftable that does triple duty: bloom out the angpow, light up the room, and let the rose breathe.

The brand impression lasts longer than the festive moment — long after the angpow is opened, the pop-up keeps doing decor work on a desk or shelf, with the rose oil quietly carrying the brand into ambient memory.
